Reforming ICE: Prioritizing Justice Over Cruelty
America is fundamentally a nation built by immigrants, and our immigration system must reflect the core values of fairness, law, and basic human decency. Right now, our approach to enforcement has been hijacked by political fearmongering and weaponized into a mass deportation campaign fueled by unchecked funding. Families are being indiscriminately targeted, asylum seekers face inhumane detention conditions, and vulnerable children are left caught in the crosshairs of aggressive political theater. Relying on perpetual fear, mass incarceration, and systemic trauma does not make our borders more secure—it actively erodes public trust, paralyzes local economies, and strips away constitutional protections. No hardworking family or longtime resident should have to live in constant terror of being torn apart by a system that treats human beings as political props.
I am running for Congress to demand radical accountability, rigorous oversight, and comprehensive reform within ICE. Immigration enforcement must strictly prioritize genuine threats to public safety—such as serious violent criminals and dangerous human trafficking operations—rather than target families trying to build better lives. We must permanently end the practice of using private, for-profit detention centers as a first resort and instead modernize our overwhelmed immigration courts to dismantle the massive case backlogs. True security means moving away from state-sponsored cruelty and toward common-sense solutions: protecting our Dreamers, securing legal immigration pathways, and establishing a clear, accessible timeline to citizenship. We are at our absolute strongest when we lead with both the rule of law and the power of human compassion.
